Eating onions daily prevents hypertension
Eating a diet high in fats and salt can lead to hypertension. But certain foods have been found to have blood pressure-lowering effects and one such food is the onion.
A study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, looked at 70 overweight people with high blood pressure. It reported that a dose of 162 mg per day of quercetin-rich onion extract significantly reduced systolic blood pressure. Â Additionally, onions can help control high blood sugar and reduce the risk of stomach and colorectal cancer.
Multiple benefits
Probiotics bad for immune system
Poor responseÂ
Probiotics may block cancer patients’ response to immunotherapy, new research suggests. Researchers at the Parker Institute in the US found that melanoma patients taking probiotic supplements were 70% less likely to respond to immunotherapy.
Recent research has revealed that the immune system and the bacteria in the gut are intimately linked. A balanced diet high in fibre – and free of probiotics – is beneficial for cancer patients being treated with immunotherapy, the researchers say.
