Regulate cost of food inside cinema halls: HC

Public fleeced

1

The Bombay High Court has observed that the charges of food items in multiplexes are “exorbitant”, sometimes more than the film ticket. It has asked the Maharashtra government to clarify if it proposes to introduce norms to regulate the sale of food items inside cinema halls.

People are barred from brining in home food into cinema halls due to security concerns. As a result, the petitioner said, the public is forced to purchase whatever is sold at high prices. Moreover, senior citizens and others who cannot eat junk food due to medical reasons face a problem.

Facebook takes action on misleading advts

Feedback feature

Facebook is clamping down on advertisements from shopping sites that deliver low-quality products and put up misleading advts on the social network. The company has launched a new feature that will enable users who click on advts and place orders with e-commerce companies, to give feedback.

Consumers can report how late a product is delivered or if the delivered product is different from that shown in the advt. These responses will be given to the advertiser or seller. They will be given a chance to improve. If they don’t, Facebook says, it may stop showing their advts. The social network says it wants its users to have zero negative experiences related to online shopping advts.

Organic food manufacturers given more time

 FSSAI notification

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a notification dated 29 June 2018 on compliance of Food Safety and Standards (Organic Food) Regulations, 2017.  According to the regulations (notified in December 2017), all Food Business Operators were required to ensure compliance of their existing and new organic products by 1 July 2018.

However, after receiving representations from stakeholders, FSSAI decided to permit the use of non-detachable stickers with respect to the FSSAI organic logo.  Also, FBOs that manufacture, process or handle organic food shall have to obtain a licence or get organic food endorsed in their existing licence by 30 September 2018.
