How to fight allergies
Use a mask: Avoid any activity that aggravates your allergy. But if you have no option but to do it, then take proper precautions. Wear a mask whenever you are gardening, dusting or cleaning as it keeps dust and pollen out of your nose and mouth.
Use a bowl of boiling water or take a hot shower to breathe in steam for symptom relief. Steam will relieve inflamed sinuses and clear out unwanted congestion that could lead to bacterial infections.
Steam: If you need to cool down, use air conditioners as they remove mould-friendly moisture and filter allergens entering the house. But do remember to clean the filters regularly or it will make things worse.
Dehumidify: Mould and dust mites thrive in moist environments. Keep the humidity in your house under control by using an exhaust fan in the bathroom to remove moisture from air. Also consider installing a dehumidifier during humid weather.
Food watch: Your body needs nutrients to build immunity and fight allergies all year round. But you may be allergic to certain foods. Food allergies can cause a serious reaction. Observe your body reactions to the intake of certain foods and avoid those that trigger allergies.
Pet care: You may love to cuddle your pooch but remember that pets are a major carrier of allergens around the house. So give them a frequent bath. Just make sure to wash your hands well after you are done with your pet.
De-stress: Studies suggest that stress lowers your body’s immunity to fight allergy symptoms. Relax, meditate, get a massage, listen to soothing music, or do something that calms you.
Medication: If you still continue to get your bouts of sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, it is time you met your doctor and got medicine prescribed.
