 NABL for pump lab
Testing Organisation for Research in Chemicals and Health Hazards (TORCH), established by CERC, has a laboratory with sophisticated equipment for testing of submersible pumpsets as per the IS standard. The laboratory has received accreditation from National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) – an autonomous body under Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The lab is conducting tests on a wide variety of pumpsets and providing test certificate with NABL symbol.
Power tariff cut for 2016-17 demanded
CERS has demanded reduction in tariff due to drop in imported coal prices and allocation of cheap and subsidised gas to generation companies of Gujarat by the Ministry of Power. Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) is likely to pass final order on or before 31 March 2016. CERS has also demanded separate tariffs for each DISCOM owned by the Government of Gujarat to generate competition and giving options to consumers while choosing a power supplier.
CERS helps boy injured in electrical accident
In a tragic accident in Mehsana district, Vijay Khatri, 4, lost both his hands when he touched an electric pole where a live cable was hanging. He had severe burn injuries and was admitted in hospital. Mr. K.K. Bajaj, Chief General Manager, CERC wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office in this regard. The PMO forwarded his letter to the Government of Gujarat which has issued a statement that it would meet all Vijay’s medical expenses and take strict action against Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. (UGVCL) staff for their negligence which caused the accident.Â
ENVIS national workshop held
A three-day National Interaction-cum-Evaluation Workshop for Environment Information System (ENVIS) centres was held in New Delhi between 17 and 19 February 2016. It was hosted by ENVIS Centre at World Wildlife Fund India. Ms. Ashoka Ghosh and Mr. Rikeen Makwana attended the workshop. Mr. Uday Mawani, CEO of CERC, was present at the inaugural function. The workshop was inaugurated by the Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Mr. Prakash Javadekar. He launched the ENVIS portal at the inaugural function.
