Bitter truth about neem face wash

Young boys and girls wish to have a clear, beautiful skin and advertisers for skincare products try to cash in on this fascination. The TVC of Garnier Pure Active Neem Face Wash claims ‘The first ever face wash that removes pimples and marks’ and ‘enriched with real Neem’. Any viewer would be drawn to use this product believing that you would get a clear, blemish free skin by just washing your face with it. Knowing that pimples and marks are related to lifestyle and skin type, we could not digest these claims and so wrote to ASCI.

ASCI upheld our complaint as the claim “first ever face wash that removes pimples and marks”, read in conjunction with the disclaimer from Garnier, was misleading by implication and the advertisement contravened Chapter I.4 of the Code. The advertiser modified the advertisement. Though ASCI informed us that the claim “enriched with real Neem” was substantiated, we still have doubts about the truthfulness of it.
