Adults who sleep less than 6 hours a night are at a higher risk of having heart attack, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Spanish researchers conducted a study on nearly 4,000 adults to understand how lack of sleep affects the heart.
Participants with poor-quality sleep were more likely to have atherosclerosis — the hardening and narrowing of arteries — which is the usual cause of heart attacks and strokes.
