Norm for revival of lapsed LIC policiesÂ
Benefit extended
Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has now allowed its policyholders to revive their lapsed policies of over 2 years. Â After the IRDAI Product Regulation 2013, policies taken after 1 January 2014 could not be revived if they remained in lapsed condition for a period exceeding two years.
Now, even those LIC policyholders who bought their policies after 1 January 2014 can revive their non-linked policies within 5 years and unit-linked policies within 3 years of first unpaid premium. The policyholders who are able to revive their policies within the set time frame can continue to get life insurance cover and its benefits.

Ban on sale of junk food in and around schools likely
Healthy food for children
A complete ban on the sale and advertisement of junk foods in school canteens and within 50 meters of school campuses has been proposed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The aim is to encourage children to consume only safe and wholesome food.
FSSAI has sought comments from stakeholders for the draft Food Safety and Standards (Safe Food and Healthy Diets for School Children) Regulations, 2019. It has proposed that school authorities will have to adopt a comprehensive programme for promoting safe food and healthy diets among schoolchildren.

App for registering consumer grievances launched

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has launched “Consumer App†that will help consumers across the nation register their grievances online and give suggestions on several consumer-related issues. The app, available in iOS and Android, is available in Hindi and English for free. The minister said, “the lodged complaint would be referred to the respective consumer platform.â€
Consumer complaints would be redressed within a maximum of 60 days. Â The App would also be useful for consumers to get information about 42 different sectors, including consumer durables, electronic products, e-commerce, banking, insurance, etc.
