Govt. proposes to ban fairness cream advts

Act may be amended

In a draft proposed by the Health and Family Wnews flashelfare Ministry as an amendment to the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements Act, 1954), advertisements for magic remedies, fairness creams, treatment for stammer, cure for AIDS, and more would come under the scanner. The punishment is a jail term of up to five years and a fine of up to Rs. 50 lakhs. The ministry has released a list of total 78 diseases, disorders and conditions under the ban.

In the past, several Bollywood actors such as Shah Rukh Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Yami Gautam, John Abraham and Alia Bhatt have endorsed fairness and lightness creams, triggering a huge debate.

Policy holders will get the sum assured in case of Covid-19 death

A friend in need

Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has clarified that in the eventuality of a policy holder dying due to Covid-19, the nominee of the policy will get the sum assured as death benefit. It has also said all life insurers, both public and private, are committed to process any death claim pertaining to Covid-19 at the earliest.
