We tested 12 brands of Besan and 2 Loose, unbranded samples. With a good overall score, Gaay Chhaap, Shreshth and Shakti Bhog are recommended as our ‘Best Buys’.

Best Buy
With a good overall score, Gaay Chhaap, Shreshth and Shakti Bhog are recommended as our ‘Best Buys’.
- Gopal (98.3 per cent) and Rajdhani (99.1 per cent) did not comply with the IS requirement of 100 per cent Besan to pass through 500 micron IS sieve.
- Gopal showed the maximum alcoholic acidity of 0.20 per cent against the Agmark limit of 0.18 per cent (Grade II). It also did not conform to the characteristic microscopic appearance as specified by the IS, thus indicating adulteration.
- Gopal and Janta Bazaar widely failed to meet the minimum IS requirement for protein. Madam and Grihasthi marginally failed to conform to the Standards.
- Janta Bazaar, Gopal Lakdaji and Swastik did not conform to the labelling specifications.
