Now Complain About Dirty Hotels and Bad Food Instantly: FSSAI Makes QR Codes Mandatory at All Food Outlets.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated that all food business operators—including restaurants, dhabas, cafes, and street-side eateries—must prominently display their FSSAI license or registration certificate along with a special QR code in visible areas such as entrances, billing counters, and dining areas. This QR code links directly to the “Food Safety Connect” mobile app, enabling consumers to instantly report issues related to food quality, hygiene, or misleading food product claims by simply scanning the code. Complaints submitted through the app are automatically forwarded to the appropriate authorities for quick action, ensuring faster grievance redressal and heightened accountability among food businesses. Additionally, the FSSAI has required that this QR code be incorporated not only at physical premises but also across digital platforms like websites and food delivery apps, promoting transparency and empowering customers to participate actively in food safety.
